Mackey Joyner - Allendale

Funeral services for Mr. Mackey Joyner, 88, of 455 Black Road, Allendale, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Magdalene Christian Church with Reverend Cynthia Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mackey Joyner was born in Bull Pond, Old Barnwell County on February 15, 1928 to the late John Joyner and the late Sylvia Baxter Joyner.

He was educated in the public schools of Allendale County. At an early age he joined Magdalene Christian Church in Allendale and was later baptized. He was employed with Donohoe Construction Company as a driver for many years. He was a well-dressed man and had a love for looking good and wearing his jewelry. He enjoyed lawn care and gardening. His favorite “pastime” was going out to eat.

Mr. Joyner passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Govan Joyner; both parents, three brothers and three sisters.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: two sons, Trevor Dixon of Washington, D.C. and Giovante Jefferson of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Olivia Dixon of Washington, D.C.; two adopted children: Takoma Parker and Barbara Driggins, both of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Lula Mae Black of Allendale; a devoted nephew, Norman Garvin Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; a devoted niece, Lavonia Brodus of Allendale; a devoted grandnephew, Alexander Boyd of Philadelphia, PA; special friends: Alma (Robert) Smith and Leah Smith, both of Woodbridge, VA, Sandra Hill of Washington, D.C. and AJ Ward of Allendale; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and caring friends.

Allendale Community Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
