Tarsem Singh Purewal of Allendale, son of the late Lashkar Singh Purewal and Surjit Kaur Purewal, passed away at his home Saturday, February 25, 2017 after an extended illness.
Tarsem was born March 16, 1944 in Shankar, Punjab, India and immigrated to America in 1969 to further his education at the University of Washington. After graduating with a Masters in Electrical Engineering, Tarsem moved to the South. This is where he began his career with BellSouth and met his wife in 1972. After 25 years of service Tarsem retired in 1996, but only temporarily. After a few months of retirement he joined Westinghouse at Savannah River Plant for a few years. Soon after he joined the staff at USC-Salkehatchie as an instructor of Computer Science where he touched many lives until retirement.
Tarsem was a devoted husband to Melda Myrick for almost 45 years. He was also a loving father of one son, Semmy Purewal (Emily) of San Jose, California, one daughter, Mandi Purewal Fisk (Jesse), and the greatest Papa to Rayna Purewal-Fisk and Jasper Purewal-Fisk, all from Goose Creek. Tarsem is also survived by three brothers, Charanjit Purewal (Shindo) from Yuba City, California, Ajit Purewal (Manjinder), from Olympia, Washington, Karnail Purewal (Kulwinder) Charleston; one sister, Jaswinder Rai from Bellingham, Washington; sisters-in-law, Bhajan Kaur Purewal from Sacramento, California, Mary Anne Smith (Douglas) of Hampton; brother-in-law, Bobby Myrick from Allendale, and many nieces and nephew. Tarsem was predeceased by one brother, Prem Purewal from Yuba City, California and one sister, Darshan Sandhu from Yuba City, California.
A Celebration of Tarsem’s Life will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Mt. Arnon Baptist Church at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
