Horace 'Al' Allen Jr. - Summerfield, Fla.

Horace F. “Al” Allen Jr. passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home in Summerfield, Florida.

Al was born in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York, on November 28, 1924 to Horace F. Allen Sr. and Grace Reppenhagen.

Less than six weeks after his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific for the duration of World War II earning two Purple Hearts. Right after the war, Al married Patricia “Peggy” Gorman on January 10, 1946. She passed away on March 3, 2010.

Al lived in New York, Maine, Vermont and finally Florida. He retired from Lowe’s in 2012 but worked mainly in the automotive industry his entire life.

From this first marriage, Al leaves a daughter, Jayne Allen of Barnwell; four grandchildren, Tricia Allen Gordon of Blackville, Cecilia Allen Peeples (Jack) of Williston, Mimi Violette (Ben) and Alaina McCay (BJ); and six great-grandchildren, Nate, Joshua and Austin Gordon, Jesse and Lillie Allen, and Viggo Violette Sasson.

Al married his second wife Evelyn on November 12, 2011. He also leaves behind three step children, eight step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, Florida on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery in the Fourth Marine Division section, Quantico, Va. with full military honors
