Mr. Lenwood Lee Carter, aka “Bummie.” age 58, of Fairfax, was born on August 19, 1958, in Fairfax, South Carolina to the late Luther Carter Sr. and the late Janie Lee Youmans Carter.
At an early age, he sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church in Fairfax where he served on the usher board until his health began to fail.
He received his education in the public schools of Allendale, South Carolina, and worked as a Chipper Operator at the lumber mill for many years.
“Bummie”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was married to his loving wife, Willie Lou Carter, for 36 years.
Besides his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by one son, Lenwood Lashawn Carter; three sisters, Jeanette Roberts, Betty Moore, and Janie Lou Bryant; and two brothers, Luther Carter Jr. and Sam Brooker.
Our Heavenly Father called him home on Sunday, August 3, 2017, at the Augusta University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Willie Lou Carter of Fairfax; three daughters, Melanie A. Carter, Patrice R. Youmans and Melissa Youmans of Fairfax; one son, Stephen A. (Delfine) Carter of Fairfax; six grandchildren; one godchild; two sisters, Roberta Sanders of Fairfax and Mary (Jeremiah) Habersham of Texas; two brothers, Peter Carter of Hampton and Terry (Harriet) Haynes of Fairfax; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Mae Brooker of Winter Haven, Fla., and Viester Priester of Fairfax; five aunts, Annie Ruth Wright, Minnie Mae Priester, and Mordell Hicks of Allendale, Lillie Mitchell and Ruthie McMillan of Fairfax; two uncles, Harry (Emma) Dickson of Barnwell and Bobby Wright of Allendale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and sympathizing friends.
The visitation was held, Friday, August 11, 2017 from 3-7 p.m. at the B. F. Cave Funeral Chapel in Allendale.
The funeral service was held 2 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the St. Luke Baptist Church in Fairfax with words of comfort by Rev. Henry Youmans Sr. The burial followed in the church cemetery.
B.F. Cave Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
