Lucille Houston, one of 12 children born to the late Joseph and Lucille Sanders, departed this life into everlasting peace on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.
She was born on November 2, 1939 in Barnwell where she received her early education. Lucille later married Leroy Houston, who preceded her in death. She moved to New York City where she raised her six children and was a wonderful mother who loved and supported them.
Lucille worked in the childcare field for many years until she retired. She loved the Lord and served faithfully as assistant pastor at Bryant Memorial Church in Brooklyn, New York for many years and later served as assistant pastor of Upper Room International Ministries COGIC until her health no longer permitted.
She was preceded in death by both parents and eight siblings, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, James Edward Houston, Leroy Houston Jr., Tyrone Black Houston, Jerome Black Houston; two daughters, Maggie D. Wynter and Brenda L. Carver (Ernest); nine grandchildren, Deidra, Gregory, China, Quilisha, Quiniqua, Romeesha, Charlene, Jaleisa, Ciara; one brother, Reuben Sanders; two sisters, Annie Mae Butterfield and Selena Gibson (Willie); one son-in-law, Ernest L. Carver; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at noon at Parks Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Gaines officiating. Interment followed at Parks Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Beech Island.
Unity Funeral Chapel, Inc. in New York City, N.Y. and Lebby Funeral Home in Barnwell were entrusted with the arrangements.
