Mr. Walter Theodore “Ted” Allen of Parkwood Terrace in Allendale, died Thursday morning, Feb. 23, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Allen was born in Highland Park, Michigan, January 10, 1943, a son of the late Walter and Margaret Olson Allen. He had worked and retired as the Water Superintendent for the Town of Allendale and had also worked as an Assistant Funeral Director for Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home. He was a Navy Veteran and served on the USS Saratoga CVA-60 for four years. He was a former member of the Allendale Fire and Rescue Squad and had coached Dixie Youth Baseball and baseball and softball at Allendale Academy. He was a member of the Great Salkehatchie Baptist Church in Ulmer.
Surviving are: his wife, Mary Frances Creech Allen of Allendale; son, Teddy Allen and wife Lisa of Simpsonville; daughter, Joanni Long and husband Chuck of Ulmer; sisters, Carol Couch of Center Line, Michigan and Donna Knoblock of Linden, Tennessee. There are four grandchildren: Rachel and Teddy Allen of Simpsonville and Wyman and Summer Long of Ulmer.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 in the Great Salkehatchie Baptist Church in Ulmer conducted by Rev. Marshall Still with burial in the Great Salkehatchie Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton and Saturday after 2 p.m. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
