A graveside funeral service for John Wilkes Brown Jr., 79, of Barnwell, will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Barnwell Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road with the Reverend Edgar Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June, 26, 2017 at Folk Funeral Home, Williston.
Mr. Brown passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017.
Born in Jonesville, he was a son of the late John Wilkes Brown Sr. and Lena Gault Brown and was married to the late Christine Scarborough Folk Brown. As a young boy his family moved to Barnwell where he was a graduate of Barnwell High School and later received a degree in electronics from Midlands Technical College. Mr. Brown worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation of Cape Canaveral, Fla. for a number of years prior to moving back to Barnwell and farming. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church, a former member of the Barnwell Jaycees, a mason with the Harmony Masonic Lodge #17 of Barnwell and was a member of the United Kennel Club and Salkehatchie Coon Hunters Association.
Survivors include his son, LTC Victor R. Brown and his wife Kelly of Lexington; grandchildren, Jordan, Jackson and Cale Brown; a brother, George Ray Brown and his wife Brenda of Lancaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn “Betty” Musgrave and her husband Bob.
