Benny Garvin - Barnwell

Benny Alvin Garvin, 63, of Barnwell, was the son of the late Heyward Sr. and Emma Garvin Reed. He was born in Springfield on February 3, 1954.

At an early age seeking God’s direction and guidance, he joined Bethlehem Olar in Olar where he served as a trustee.

Benny received his education in the Orangeburg County Public School System. He graduated from Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School, Norway, Class of 1972. Benny was part of the U.S. Naval Reserve for three years. He later worked for Hubbard in Aiken.

He loved to fish, watch sports and sci-fi, and he loved his family.

“Nat”, as he was affectionately known, was a loving and kind person who will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends.

Benny was married to Janie Williams Garvin for seven years.

Besides his parents and grandparents, Benny is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Garvin.

Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call him from labor to reward on June 13, 2017.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Janie Garvin of Barnwell; nine children, Melissa (Paul) Williamson of Barnwell, Timothy (AnaMaria) Brown of McDonough, Ga., Ervin (Marguerite) Brown of North, Denise (Maurice) Smith of Houston, Texas, Sheena (Anthony) Jones of White Creek, Tenn., Jammie (Jacquetta) Anderson of Lyman, Natalie (Anthony) Perry, Cheryl (Gregory) Washington, Travis Felder of Columbia; 19 grandchildren; five brothers, Heyward (Betty) Garvin of Springfield, Wallace Garvin of Springfield, Jimmy (Carrie) Garvin of Columbia, Ruben (Ethel) Garvin of Capitol Heights, Md., and Joseph (Shambra) Garvin of Springfield; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sympathizing friends.

The visitation was held Monday, June 19, 2017, at Dyches Funeral Home in Barnwell from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Dyches Funeral Home in Barnwell with words of comfort by Rev. Harold Sheppard. The burial followed in the Hope Memorial Gardens in Barnwell.

B.F. Cave Funeral Home of Allendale assisted the family with arrangements.
