Ms. Betty Ann O’Berry McClain, age 69, was born on December 13, 1947 in Barnwell to Albertha Brown O’Berry and the late Eugene O’Berry Sr.
At an early age, she sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Barnwell.
Betty received her education at the Butler School in Barnwell. She worked at Hanes Brands, formerly known as Sara Lee Sock Company, as a machine technician for many years before retiring.
Betty was a loving and kind person and will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends.
Besides her father and grandparents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles O'Berry Sr. and Dennis Smith, and one brother-in-law, Herman Lee Hallingquest.
On Saturday, July 1, 2017, our Heavenly Father called her from labor to reward at her home in Barnwell.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters, Patricia Ann Smalls, Cathleen Smalls, and Paris Latrell McClain, all of Barnwell, and Kim Albertha (Lerone) Jeffery of Warrenville; one son, Miguel McClain of Martin; three grandchildren, Chanterra S. McClain of Martin, Joshua T. Smalls, and Zion M. Hoover of Barnwell; a loving mother, Albertha O’Berry of Barnwell; five sisters, Lydia Sherman, Mary Johnson, Brenda O'Berry, Geneva Mack, and Virginia Hallingquest, all of Barnwell; four brothers, Earl (Claretha) O'Berry, Deacon Eugene (Rev. Gloria B.) O'Berry Jr., Shelton (Ella) O'Berry Sr., and Ernest Workman, all of Barnwell; two sisters-in-law, Louise O'Berry of Barnwell, and Betty Smith of Aiken; best friend, Philip Jenkins of Barnwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sympathizing friends.
A memorial service was held at noon on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Dyches Funeral Home in Barnwell with words of comfort by Rev. Gloria B. O’Berry.
The family received friends at the home located at 2910 Red Oak Road in Barnwell.
B.F. Cave Funeral Home of Allendale assisted the family with arrangements.
