A TIME TO BE BORN– Myrtle Juliet Graham, the youngest daughter of the late George and Celestine C. Graham, was born in Allendale County Hospital on March 1, 1951.
A TIME TO LIVE– Myrtle’s siblings were her closest friends. Even now, their bond and the love they shared endures. She was formally educated in the Allendale County School System, and graduated from C. V. Bing High School with honors in the class of 1969. After high school, she entered South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. She graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Myrtle moved to New York after college, and pursued a career as a professional model and an airline stewardess. She decided to accept a full-time position with Eastern Airlines. She worked there for 11 years, and then Eastern had a financial crisis. This caused her to move from New York to Newark, New Jersey, where she started a new chapter in her life. Myrtle managed Your Community Market, which was owned by her sister and brother-in-law, Georgette and Robert Laurie. She remained there until after the both of their deaths. Myrtle returned to an airline career, and began working for United Airlines as a Ticket Agent in Newark, New Jersey. She worked until her health began to fail her. Myrtle retired and moved back to Allendale, where she lived with and cared for her mother, Celestine C. Graham, until her death on March 4, 2017. Myrtle’s hobbies were reading and gardening...just like Mom...She was so much like Mom.
A TIME TO GO HOME- Myrtle leaves to cherish her memories: her fiancé, Mr. Timothy Drayton of Richmond, Virginia; her sisters, Eva M. Leaks and Gloria J. Harvey {Burnett Jr.}, both of Allendale; step-sisters, Clementine Walker of Rochester, New York, Rev. Barbara J. Higgs of New Ellenton, Arnetta Hulen of Avon Park, Florida; step-brother, Roosevelt Graham of Webster, Florida; nephews and nieces, Robert Leaks Jr. {Reba} of Farmington, New Jersey, Stephanie Carter of Virginia, Sherry A. Leaks of Mount Holly, New Jersey, Burnett Harvey III {Rochelle} of Bamberg, and Norvia R. Walker and Leonard Leaks, both of Allendale; and a host of cousins, other relatives and special friends.
