Ms. Jamie Ward Renew Wilson, 79, of Bamberg, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 after an extended illness.
Funeral services for Ms. Wilson were held 4 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Open Door Baptist Church, 6933 Main Highway, Bamberg, with the Rev. Brian Gray officiating. Burial followed at Bamberg County Memory Gardens. The family received friends from 3-4 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Ms. Wilson was born March 14, 1938 in Charleston to the late James Madison Ward and the late Ruth Porter Ward.
She grew up and attended school in Orangeburg. She worked in the public for 51 years, retiring at the age of 67. She always said the happiest job of her life was the 15 years employed at Kilgus Publishing Co. in Bamberg. She told everyone “the ink is in my blood and I will never get it out!”
She moved from Bamberg a few times, always coming back as she considered Bamberg her home. After visiting different churches she joined Open Door Baptist Church where she said the people were always so friendly and the preacher, Brian Gray, could always put a smile on her face.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin O’Shea Wilson (Edie) of Bamberg, James Edward “Jay” Wilson of Aiken; two brothers, Billy (Carol) Varn of Bamberg, Leonard C. Darden of Carrier, Miss.; one sister, Charlyne Graham of Myrtle Beach; two granddaughters, Tosha (Drew) Flournoy of Leesburg, Ga., Dixie McCollum of Barnwell; one grandson, Cody McCollum of Barnwell; one great-granddaughter, Sophia; and two great-grandsons, Hudson and Noah; several nieces and nephews; and one special friend, BJ, who gave unconditional love. She was predeceased in death by a daughter, Marie Renew Raines.
