Marie Erlis Hutto (Blackville)

Marie Erlis Hutto, 64, of Blackville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 17, 2017.

Marie was born in Bamberg on February 17, 1953. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Erlis Black Hutto. Marie loved animals and enjoyed her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. She was a member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Reedy Branch Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Mole Funeral Home.

Survivors include her two brothers and their wives, Eddie and Gail Hutto of Blackville and Wilford and Sabra Hutto of Windsor; several uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Hutto.

A Celebration of Life service for Alfred William “Bebo” Flynn, 79, of Williston, will be held two o’clock p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Williston. Memorial contributions may be given to the Williston Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 391, Williston, SC 29853 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. The family will receive friends after the service at the home his daughter, Kia and Scott Valentine, Springfield Road, Williston.

Bebo passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 16, 2017.

Alfred William “Bebo” Flynn was born in Sumter, South Carolina on September 24, 1938, and was welcomed into the world by his parents, Francis Edward Flynn and Irene Stack Flynn, and an older brother, Francis Clarence Flynn. Before moving to Williston during the Thanksgiving of 1951, Bebo lived in approximately 14 cities, including Childersburg, Alabama, Oakridge, Tennessee, and various towns across the state of South Carolina, ranging from Charleston to Camden to Greenville. After the death of his mother in 1953, Annie Laurie Hair welcomed Bebo into her home, and he remained there until he was married.

Bebo graduated from Williston-Elko High School in June of 1957 and worked for A.N. Garber Cotton Company the summer after graduation. Soon after, he joined the South Carolina Air National Guard and went to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training in 1958. He served a 1-year tour of duty at Chaumont Air Force Base in Chaumont, France, and gained the rank of staff sergeant.

On November 26, 1960, Bebo married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Boyles Flynn. He eventually had two daughters, Kia Ann Flynn (Scott) Valentine and Kelly Stack Flynn, who blessed him with five grandchildren, Mary Scott Valentine, Anna Fletcher Valentine, Flynn Victoria Valentine, Zachary Payne Neville and Tucker Yale Neville, and one great-grandchild, Eli Stack Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Stack Flynn.

In 1972, Bebo purchased A.N. Garber Cotton Company, which then became Flynn Cotton Company. He was also associated with Quincy Kennedy and the ownership of Williston Cotton Gin. Throughout his life, Bebo has played a part in various other business endeavors, including a partnership with Rudy Starnes and Wendell Lee in the ownership of Village Squire, Grapevine and Leader Clothing Stores, and an approximately 40-year partnership with Pete Grady in the ownership and management of Shamrock Realty.

Bebo’s civic involvement includes involvement in the Williston Jaycees Chapter during the early 1960s, where he served as president and was a recipient of the JCI Senator Award. He was also a past member of the Williston Lion’s Club and the 1984 recipient of Williston’s Citizen of the Year Award. Bebo is a stockholder and original charter member of the Williston Country Club, where he served on the board of directors and as president for many years. He is also a stockholder and member of the board of directors for the Williston Development Corporation. He has been a member of the Williston Presbyterian Church for 64 years where he has served as deacon, elder and treasurer.

Bebo’s political career began in the early 1960s when he was elected to the Williston Town Council. There, he served 20 years, including time as councilman mayor pro tem, and his last eight years as mayor of the town of Williston. In 1984, Bebo was appointed as Barnwell County magistrate and was subsequently appointed as Williston Municipal Judge and Barnwell County Chief Magistrate. He was a member of the National Summary Court Judges Association and is a life member of the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association. Bebo served 28 years until his retirement in December 2010. Since retirement, Bebo and his wife split their time between their homes in Williston, South Carolina and Edisto Island, South Carolina, where he enjoys fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandson.

Bebo owes his success to numerous people in Williston, including W.A. and Inez Boyne, and their son, Billy, Annie Laurie Hair, members and pastors of Williston Presbyterian Church, teachers and coaches at Williston-Elko High School, including his mentor, Joe Kelly, and his high school friends from the classes of 1957 and 1958. He is also eternally grateful for the families who have supported his career, including but not limited to Gladys and Billy Folk, Sammy, Yale and Maddy Garber, Eugene, Bosie and Kenneth Bolen, Annie Ruth and Elton Fulmer, and the Grablowsky, Gaiser and Stallings families.

Omer Fred Carroll (Williston)

Funeral services for Omer Fred Carroll, 90, of Williston, will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery with U.S. Army Military honors accorded. Mr. Carroll passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017.

Born in Kaw City, OK, he was a son of the late Fred Carroll and Della Maus Carroll and was married to the late Billie Jo Turner Carroll. He was a member of the Williston Church of Christ and retired as a maintenance machinist from E.I. DuPont. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Korea during World War II. He was an avid farmer and fisherman; he enjoyed tinkering and building things. He loved animals; especially his cats. He was a humble man who served the Lord and was always happiest when he was singing and whistling.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarie (Terrill) Tuten of Barnwell; two sons, Omer Paul (Teresa) Carroll of Aiken, B. Michael (Lisa) Carroll of Edmond, OK; daughter-in-law, Denise Carroll; grandchildren, Kerry (Kevin) Watson, George (Cecily) Carroll Jr., Neill (Mackenzie) Tuten, Brittany (Ben) Kalivas, Dillon Carroll, Jon (Chris) Carroll, Colin (Kelsey) Carroll, James (Molly) Carroll, Kristi (Neil) Arbaugh, Megan (Tony) Blake; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, George A. Carroll Sr.; sisters, Elsie Murdock, Iva Mullins, Mary Alice Majewski; brothers, Leon Carroll and John Carroll.

Ms. Johnson passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Born in Olar, she was a daughter of the late James Albert “Bubba” Sanders and Stella Catherine Morris Sanders. Betty was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church. In 1970, she received her cosmetology license and after several years developed a shoulder problem which prevented her from doing what she loved; after not being able to work as a cosmologist full time Betty found a new passion at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home where she worked for almost 16 years as a cottage mother.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Brian and Kelli Johnson of Williston; her sister, Delores Harris; her brother and his wife, William “Bill” and Sarah Sanders; her two grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Samuel Walker Johnson and Jillian Paige Johnson; nephews, Terry Harris, Jerry Harris, Jimmy Harris, Bobby Harris, Greg Harris and Clay Sanders.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Timothy Sanders.

Mrs. Ruth passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Born in Barnwell County, she was a daughter of the late James Guy Still and Hattie Louise Ward Still and was married to the late Asa Godbold. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Bamberg and previously worked in inspection and packing at the K & M Sewing Room.

Survivors include her sister, Hazel L. Schafer of Olar; brothers, James H. “Tater” (Sandra) Still of Williston, William Henry (Peggy L.) Still of Olar; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Redmond, Dora Lee Still and Flora Lee Hutto and a brother, David Still.

Born in Dunbarton, she was a daughter of the late William Bill Owens and Lucille Morris Owens Hiers and was married to the late Wade Arthur Sweat. She was a member of the Williston Church of Christ and previously worked at Shuron and Sara Lee.

Survivors include her sons, Alan (Mary) Sweat, Mitchell “Ringo” Sweat; her special companion, Edward Jeffcoat; grandchildren, Aaron Sweat, Presley (Jenny) Sweat, Paige (Will) Still, Nicki (Charlie) Williams; great-grandchildren, Abby, Ansley, Austin, Kaleb, Ethan, Wesley, Nicholas, Ashleigh, Rose, James, Joseph, Lori, Jason, Teegan, Michael, Mayson, Chase, Wyatt, Taylin; step-great grandchildren, Brianna, Charles Jr., Lacey, Shaniya; sister, Ruby Aubert; half-sisters, Minnie Pearl Dyches, Bobbie Jean Robinson; brothers, MacArthur Owens, James Owens; and her two four-legged babies, Little Bit and Big Momma.

David E. 'Gene' Cook Sr. (Allendale)

David E. “Gene” Cook Sr., 73, of Allendale, the husband of Miriam U. Cook, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Mr. Cook was born on July 14, 1944 and was the son of the late David D. “Buddy” and Margie Cook. He was a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a former Assistant Chief of the Allendale Police Department, and retired from Mixon Transport.
He was a member and former Deacon of Allendale First Baptist Church. Gene loved fishing, hunting, and sharing a good story that he swore was the truth.

Graveside funeral services were held 3 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at Mt. Arnon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Tom Hiers officiating. The family received friends one hour before the service at Mt. Arnon Baptist Church.

Family members include his wife, Miriam U. Cook; two sons, David E. Cook Jr. (Tracy) and Tracy Cook (Carol); two daughters, Susan C. Bales (Michael) and Lori C. Kalensky (Robert); grandchildren, Shana (Jason), Mackenzie, Brendan, Kaitlyn, Samantha (Rick), Colt, Spencer, Haley, Sydney, Justin, and Dylan; one brother, Gary Cook (Shirley); several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Shirly C. Martin.

Funeral services for John Colie “Buckshot” Bell, 42, of Williston, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with burial at the Williston Cemetery with U.S. Marines Military Honors accorded. “Buckshot” passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.

Born in Aiken County, he was a son of Rebecca Keel Pender and the late John Edwin “Bubba” Bell. “Buckshot” served in the U.S. Marines, where he received a National Defense Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge and was awarded numerous additional medals, badges and ribbons; he loved serving his country and he loved the Marines.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda “Mandy” Jones Bell of the home; mother and step-father, Becky and Steen Pender of Barnwell; step-daughters, Kathryn Willis and Allyson Hall-Jones of Columbia; step-son, Nicholas Amick of Columbia; step-sisters, Mindy P. Mr. Lassie E. Sanders, 58, of 233 Emily Circle, Barnwell, died on November 20, 2017 at home.

Born on April 21, 1959, he was the son of the late Farrell Duncan and Emily L. Sanders.

Funeral service was held on November 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Guinyard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Informal visitation was held Thursday, November 24, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home.

Survivors: five sisters – his loving and devoted sister, Emily D. Sanders of the home, Patricia (Sammie) Mays of Blackville, Geraldine Williams of Orangeburg, Emma D. Orr and Gretchen Duncan of Bamberg; three brothers – Perry Duncan of Bamberg, Dennis Duncan of Columbia and Leon (Lucille) Duncan of Blackville; two special nephews – Timothy and Roderick Sanders of Barnwell; two aunts – Annie Butterfield of Barnwell and Selena (Willie) Gibson of Laurinburg, N.C.; one uncle – Ruben Sanders of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a very devoted friend – Christina Hargrove; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born in Scranton, S.C. she was a daughter of the late General M. “Bub” Evans and Nellie McKnight Evans. Faye and Lonnie married in 1947 and moved to Williston in 1961 where they opened the Blossom Shop. Faye had a love for flowers and enjoyed arranging flowers that brightened everyone’s day. In 1995 they opened Faye’s Jewelry and Gifts, she always enjoyed spending time with people and making sure they were dressed with beautiful jewelry. She was a member of the Williston First Baptist Church and the Ackerman Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie Emory Jr. and Glenda McAlister of Lexington; grandchildren, Roger Dale Jr. (Stephany) Steverson, of Lexington, Amber Steverson (Chris Risinger) of Columbia, Allana (Lee) Strickland of Guyton, Ga., Christopher (Jessica) McAlister of Lexington, Jennifer (Wesley) Backman of Lexington, Cary (Kristen) McAlister of Boise, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Aiden, Clayton, Lauren, Tyler, Noah, Oliviah and Ryder; sister, Dorothy Mae Evans Kelly of Scranton, SC; sisters-in-law, Margie M. Mr. Desmond Logan Vincent Jr., 34, of 2119 Clay Street, Orangeburg, died suddenly at Providence Health on November 27, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Saint Paul Baptist Church with Pastor C. Priester Sr. officiating. The casket will be placed in church at 1 p.m.

Viewing will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Russell L. Garrett (Barnwell)

Mr. Russell L. Garrett, age 67, was born on October 24, 1950 in Dunbarton to the late Bennie Bower and the late Mattie Garrett.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, at an early age, he joined Ned Branch Baptist Church in Barnwell in 1962 where he served on the Usher Board and as a Trustee.

He received his education at Barnwell High School in Barnwell and worked at Milliken Textile for 10 years. He opened his auto body shop in Barnwell from 1985 to 2005.

Russell will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was married to the love of his life, Katherine Moore, in 1973, and this union was blessed by God for 44 years.

Besides his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Joann Garrett, Elise Highsmith, Olivia Chavos, and Mary Owens; and five brothers, Scott, Hayward, Charlie, Frank, and Marion Garrett.

Our Heavenly Father called him from labor to reward on November 22, 2017 at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken.

He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, a loving and devoted wife, Katherine Moore Garrett of Barnwell; two sisters, Clarice Roberts of Barnwell and Mellie Bower of Hallandale, Fla.; two brothers, Thomas Garrett and Harvey (Juanita) Garrett of Barnwell; two brothers-in-law, Herman Moore of Denmark and Gary Moore of Savannah, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Loraine Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sympathizing friends.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Ned Branch Baptist Church in Barnwell with words of comfort provided by Elder Bobby Dukes. His nephews, church members and friends served as pallbearers while ushers and nieces were the flower attendants. Interment followed at Ned Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Gloria Jean Cohen, aka “Peaches”, age 54, was born on September 27, 1963, in Allendale to Josephine Bassett and James Ward.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined the Doe Pond Missionary Baptist Church in Martin.

She was a 1981 graduate from Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale and later furthered her education at Benedict College in Columbia and OC Tech in Orangeburg where she studied Child Care and Business Administration.

She worked at the Allendale-Barnwell DSN Board / Children’s Center.

“Peaches”, as she was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love she had for her family, friends, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Besides her grandparents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Ben Isaac Grant and James Ward Jr.

Our Heavenly Father called her from labor to reward on November 19, 2017, at the Augusta University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, one son, Alton B. Cohen of Allendale; loving parents, Josephine B. Cohen and James Ward of Allendale; special father, Eugene Cohen of Allendale; four sisters, Carolyn Chess of Fairfax, Stacey (James) Kearse and Wendy (Keion) Frazier of Barnwell, and Melissa Owens of Williston; two brothers, David Owens of Allendale and Ricky Owens of Barnwell; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; four aunts, Nora Bassett, Lillie M. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Doe Pond Missionary Baptist Church in Martin with Pastor Riley Brown providing words of comfort. Marion Grant, Michael Priester, Jerell Myers, Cartea Chess, Timothy Myers, and James Kearse served as pallbearers while Hell’s Angels/Class of 1981 served as flower attendants. Burial followed at the Doe Pond Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dirk passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

Born in Albany, Ga., Dirk was a son of the late Ret. Lt./Col. William Harry Byrd and Peggy Joyce Harvey Byrd. Dirk served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Providence SSN 719 as a Nuclear Reactor Controls Supervisor. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was previously employed as a scheduler/planner at Westinghouse and the MOX Facility at the Savannah River Site. He formerly volunteered as assistant scout leader for Boy Scout Troop #65. He enjoyed astrology, math and was a magician; he loved entertaining and talking to others about magic. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM). Dirk was an avid reader who had a thirst for knowledge and had an uncanny ability to retain information.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-two years, Dana Kathryn Bolen Byrd of the home; son, Dane William Byrd of Williston; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Alyse and Alex Paavel of Charleston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Myron and Katie Bolen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Denise and Jimmy Elkins, all of Williston; several aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dirk was preceded in death by his brother, Alan K. Byrd.

Funeral services for Sara McElhenny Dyches, 92, of Hilda, will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating; burial will be in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dyches passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

Born in Old Ellenton, she was a daughter of the late Roy R. McElhenny and Lill Nix McElhenny and was married for 67 years to the late Terrell H. Dyches Sr. She was a graduate of Ellenton High School. She also attended Augusta Junior College and was a graduate of Caralette Beauty School, Columbia. She was a member of Double Pond Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Sara was a most loving wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver of her parents and husband. She loved her church, music, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her daughters, Diane (Tim) Kmiecik of North Augusta, Dawn King of Aiken; son, Terrell (Phylis) Dyches Jr. of Hilda; grandchildren, Nick Kmiecik, Rachel Dyches, Emily Dyches.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Sullivan and a brother, Roy McElhenny Jr.

Heaven’s Gain Is Our Loss…….

Bob Jolley (Buren Lee), 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from complications of a stroke that he had on July 24, 2017. He was born June 29, 1931 in Shelby, N.C. to the late Robert and Lorena Jolley.

Bob loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a gifted athlete and in 1949 signed with a professional baseball team–RC Owls. This was short–lived due to the Korean War. Fortunately, while proudly serving his country in the Navy, he was able to play baseball and serve as manager of a football team.

In 1955, Bob moved to Aiken to work for DuPont (Savannah River Site). His entire career was spent as an analyst in the various labs at the site. He retired with 40 years of service.

He had a passion for golf and he was known in the area as an excellent left handed golfer, winning numerous tournaments throughout the state. He loved all golf courses but his home away from home was the golf course at Cedar Creek. He cherished the friendships that he made over the many years and took pride in knowing all the members.

In addition to his loving wife, Holly Kearse–Jolley, Bob is survived by his son, Rick (Sandy) Jolley and his daughter, Pam Gilbert; grandchildren, Jason (AnnLee) Gilbert, Heather (Clint) Walker, Amanda (Brian) Taylor, and Patrick Jolley; great-grandchildren, Savannah Gilbert, Aidan and Brynn Walker, and Presley Taylor; sisters, Ailleen Harrington and Patsy Harmon; mother-in-law, Nellie Kearse; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Janie Kearse, Kenny and Phylis Kearse and Yvonne Snider; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Demmis Jolley, sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Stan Nabow, brother-in-laws, Max Harrington, Tal Harmon, and David Snider and nephew, Jodi Kearse.

A private celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

Alice Marie Boyd Collins, 89, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2017 in Aiken.

Born in Williston on March 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Clarence and Elizabeth Ussery Boyd. After retiring from Shuron she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, attending bingo at McDonald’s, helping her community by carrying Meals on Wheels and also attending line dancing at Gail Reyes with the Senior Steppers. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and member of Sunshine Prayer Group. She loved the Lord, loved her family and friends. She had a passionate love for cooking and gardening.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Theron S. Collins, their children Cynthia (Tony) Towne of Barnwell and Eric (Jayne) Collins of West Virginia; grandchildren, Chelsea Collins, Michael Collins Jr., Sheree Gonzalez, Kimberly (Jon) Hurst, and Tony Towne Jr.; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Michael O. Collins; sisters, Marion Hinson, Avis Price, Ethelene Grubbs, and Vera Majeski; brothers, WC Boyd, Wallace Boyd, James Boyd, Sidney Boyd, and Russell Boyd.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Deer officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday evening at Mole Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Richard Jefferies 'Ricky' Zorn (Snelling)

Richard Jefferies “Ricky” Zorn, 52, of Snelling, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Providence Health Hospital in Columbia after a protracted battle with cancer.

Ricky was born in Bamberg County on April 30, 1965. He was a son of Patrick Furman Zorn and Ann Fail Toole. He was a truck driver and loved being on the road and meeting people. Ricky was a very giving, kind, and caring person. He had a true love for children. He believed in his Savior Jesus Christ and he loved everyone. Ricky enjoyed the simple things and loved life. We called him Bubba and he had many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church and after the funeral services the family will greet friends in the church social hall and at the residence of James and Anne Toole, 306 Heather Rd., Olar.

Survivors include his parents, Sylvia Ann and James Charles Toole and Patrick Furman Sr. and Pamelene Zorn; his sisters and brothers, Frances Ann Beach, Patty Lynn (Hank) Zorn, Evonne (Ken) Villegas, Keith (MaDonna) Toole, Tanya Boyle, Katrina Marrequez, Dixie Zorn, Corey Zorn, Kevin Zorn, Paul Vance and Phillip Beard. He was predeceased by a son, Leroy Alvin Carroll who died in infancy; a brother, Patrick Zorn Jr.; and two nephews, Chad Williams and K.C. Grubbs.

John Wesley Deer Jr., 62, of Olar, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Mr. Deer was born on July 13, 1955 in Columbia. He was a son of the late John Wesley Deer Sr. and Margie Reed Deer. He was a graduate of Newberry College and was a retired engineer with the CSX Railroad. He was a member of Olar First Baptist Church. He had coached football, basketball, and softball at Jefferson Davis Academy, Barnwell High School, and Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. He was an avid Clemson football fan and was a loving father and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Olar First Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Joseph Layton “Joe” Simmons, 70, of Barnwell, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Joe was born in Barnwell County on September 12, 1947 and was a son of the late Lewis and Marie Gleaton Simmons. He was a retired farm worker and carpenter.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Seven Pines Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Mole Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Loraine Simmons; children, Rodney Simmons, Michael (Shelly) Simmons, Ryan Simmons; stepson, Eddie (Michele) Altman; stepdaughter, Beverly Horn; brothers, Rudolph Jeffcoat, Willie Jeffcoat, Edward Jeffcoat, Roy Simmons, Lewis Simmons Jr., Earnest Simmons; sister, Maryann Simmons; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, J.J. Jeffcoat and sister, Jennie Simmons Jenkins.
