Roseanne Myrick McPherson - Aiken

Roseanne Myrick McPherson, 60, of Aiken, died Friday, December 9, 2016.

Mrs. Myrick was a native of Ulmer and the daughter of the late Billy Cave and Margie McMillan Myrick. She was a homemaker and member of Great Saltkehatchie Baptist Church. Roseanne was a loving mother, loved her many pets and growing flowers. She will be missed by her many friends.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 in the Great Saltkehatchie Cemetery with the Reverend Marshall Still officiating. The family received friends following the service at the cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Andrew Emerson; her husband, Art McPherson; one brother, Rodger Myrick (Donna); one niece, Rebecca Smith (Brabham) and one nephew, Ryan Myrick (Susan).

Linwood Mitchell - Erwin, TN

Funeral services for Linwood William Mitchell, 84, of Erwin, TN, formerly of Denmark, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Willow Swamp Baptist Church with the Reverends Benjamin Harr and Farrell Ray officiating, Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Daniel Hammond Jr., Christopher Hammond, Danny Mishoe Jr., Brad Mishoe, Brandon Sanders, Stevie Mitchell Jr., and Wesley Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Daniel Hammonds Sr. and Joe Grubbs.

Mr. Mitchell passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

Born in Graniteville, he was a son of the late Julius Marion Mitchell and Lizze Darnell Mitchell and was married to the late Mary Vaughn Mitchell. He attended First Baptist Church in Erwin, TN and previously worked maintenance at the nursing home in Orangeburg. Mr. Mitchell served in the U. S. Navy.

Survivors include his daughters, Terry Sanders and Tammy Dailey, both of Barnwell; sons, Stevie Mitchell of Blackville, Allen Linwood Mitchell Sr. of Erwin, TN; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; including grandson, A. J. (Brenda) Mitchell and their children Samuel, Gabby and Olivia Mitchell who visited with him daily. In addition to his wife, Mary Mitchell, he was preceded in death by daughters, Mary Sue Thompson, Lynn Mitchell, Judy Mitchell; great-granddaughters, Emily Payton Mitchell, Angel Courtney Ferguson; sisters, Dorothy Patrick, Loreen Stringfield, Mildred Breeland; brothers, Jimmy, Billy, Bobby and Marion Mitchell.

Patrick J. Mayes - Barnwell

Funeral services for Mr. Patrick J. Mayes of Barnwell will be held on Wednesday December 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Frost Branch Baptist Church of Elko with the Rev. Joseph Williams, Pastor, and Rev. Harold Sheapard, eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church of Blackville.

Mr. Patrick John Mayes, aka “Pat”, age 55, was born on April 12, 1961, to Dorothy Louise Mayes and the late Hildon George Mayes in Barnwell County.

At an early age he sought God’s direction and guidance and joined Frost Branch Baptist Church in Elko.

Patrick attended Williston-Elko Public Schools in Williston. He was employed with Augusta Fiberglass, LLC, in Blackville for 33 years.

“Pat”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Hildon George Mayes, one sister, Shirley Isaac, and two brothers, John Henry Mayes and George Mayes Jr.

On Monday, December 5, 2016, our Heavenly Father called him home from labor to reward following an extended illness at his residence in Barnwell.

Patrick leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted mother, Dorothy Louise Mayes of Blackville; his fiancé, Darlene Chrystal Jackson of the home Barnwell; four sons, Darrauise Mayes of Denmark, Lamont Drake of Jacksonville, Florida, Garry Williams of New York, NY, James Drake of Columbia, and Melvin Drake of Allendale; two daughters, Shenika Brown and Shawndae Drake, both of Barnwell; four sisters, Jessie (Freddie) Glover and Linda Mayes, both of Blackville, Marie Mayes of Denmark, and Ashley Faust of Columbia; three brothers, Leroy (Cassandra) Mayes and Willie Mayes, both of Blackville, and Andre (Elizabeth) Mayes of Burlington, NC; one uncle, Harold (Helen) Mayes of Blackville; one aunt, Maydell Glover of West Columbia; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sympathizing friends.

Clarence Carlton Bowers Sr. 70, of Allendale, husband of Patricia Williams Bowers died Thursday, December 15, 2016.

Mr. Bowers was a native of Hampton, and the son of Roberta Jarrell Bowers and the late Willie A. Bowers. He was retired from J.P Stevens and was a member of Bells Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Bells Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Olar, with Pastor Jimmy Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia W. Bowers; 5 children, Phillip Beach (Robin), Randy Beach, David Beach, Carlton Bowers Jr. (Amanda) and Carleen Bowers (Josh); 13 grandchildren, Morgan Beach, David Beach Jr., Brandon Varnadoe, Holli Beach, Dewayne Brown, Bryce Beach, Savannah Beach, Carlton Bowers III, Mallory Beach, Hunter Beach, Harley Beach, Hayden Lafontaine and Patrick Lafontaine; one great-grandchild, John Parker Rodgers; three brothers, Willis Bowers (Jackie), Redmond Bowers and Wayne Bowers (Marie); one sister, Linda Kay Jarrell; and one sister-in-law, Cathy Bowers. Hercules Roberts - Maryland

Hercules Lee Roberts was born on November 24, 1943, in Allendale to the late Perstine and Vera Roberts.

Herk, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Fairfax. He worked as a truck driver for H.A. Hastings in Hebron, Maryland, Dorchester Lumber in Linkwood, Maryland, and Collum’s Lumber in Allendale. Herk married the love of his life, Betty Ann Stevens, on October 23, 1965.

Herk was peacefully called to his eternal rest on November 9, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Herk leaves a legacy of love with: his wife of 51 years of love, Betty Ann Roberts of Salisbury, Maryland; three children, Lorenzo (Gwendolyn) Roberts of Columbia, Denise (Travis) Griffin of Greenwood, and Lamont (Kinue Jones) of Salisbury, Maryland; one brother, Larry (Christine) Roberts of Allendale; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was also a father and mentor to many.

Herk was preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Roberts, and one sister, Laurie Roberts of Allendale.

Dr. Herbert Abraham Moskow - Denmark

Funeral services for Dr. Herbert Abraham Moskow of Denmark will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Bethel Park United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Andrews Memorial Cemetery, Andrews. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service.

Dr. Herbert Abraham Moskow entered into eternal rest December 19, 2016. He was born in Chadburn, NC on October 23, 1929 to Robert and Eva Moskow. He lived and practiced Family Medicine in Bamberg County from 1968 until his retirement in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Ettre Vee Rogers Moskow; his children, Abe Moskow (Susan), Eve Moskow Branyon (Tommy), Blake Moskow Hahn (Bill), Robb Moskow (Katie), Cheryl Kelly (Jim); step children, Carol Chubin (Roger), John McLauren (Mary), Donnie Moskow and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Frankie Sapp Richardson, 92 of Elko, will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Floyd Dukes and Dr. Chris Mullennix officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Frankie passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

Born in Evans County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Frank Sapp and Lillie Stringer Sapp and was married to the late Jacob Odell Richardson for 57 years. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she previously served as the assistant Sunday School Director, WMU Director, Sunday School teacher in the adult women’s class and the Youth Department. Mrs. Frankie was a homemaker, loved her family and friends dearly, enjoyed crocheting and was a fantastic cook.

Survivors include daughters, Jane Richardson, Karen W. (Mike) Gainey of Williston; sons, Milton O’Neal Richardson, Jimmy (Cheryl) Franklin Richardson of Elko; sister, Lillian McDonald of Pooler, Ga.; brothers, James T. Sapp of Ricon, Ga., Perry L. Sapp of Hardeeville; grandchildren, Scotty, James and Bryan Richardson; great-grandchildren Stacy, Brandon, Katy, Alena, Craig, Troy; great-great-grandchildren, Coral Rose, Teagan, Derrick, Marley, Kase; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry M. Richardson; grandson, Ronnie Richardson and a sister, Alice Nease.

Willie Clifford Cling - Cope

Willie Clifford Cling, 59, passed away December 15, 2016 at his home in Cope.

Born on July 15, 1957 he was the son of the late Willie C. and Kathleen Zorn Cling.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Mew officiating. Burial followed in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Survivors include his significant other, Lola Nisbet of Cope; daughter, Jennifer C. (Tommie) Phillips of Neeses; step daughters, Angie (Todd) Kemmerlin of Cope, and Cristie Hay of Cope; step sons, Kevin Hay of Cope and Keith (Katy) Hay of Walterboro; grandson, James Phillips of Neeses and Baby Boy Joshua who is on the way and 9 step grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Mishoe and Charlotte Swetman. He was predeceased by sisters, Kathy Abbott and Gertrude Grubbs.

Robert "Bob" Mixon - Barnwell

Robert William “Bob” Mixon, 67, of Barnwell, passed away at his home on December 19, 2016.

Bob was born in Augusta, Georgia on July 12, 1949 and was the son of the late Ray B. Mixon Sr. and Edith Sessions Mixon. He was a graduate of Barnwell High School and an army veteran having served with the U.S. Army Security Agency in the Aleutians Islands. He was a former employee of SCDOT and became the loving caretaker of his parents until their passing. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. Bob was a sweet and gentle soul who cared and looked after others.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road with Rev. Keith Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:15 until 10:45 a.m. at Mole Funeral Home.

Survivors include his brothers, Ray B. (Janice) Mixon Jr. of Cayce and Carl F. (Sandra) Mixon of Martinez, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Rhonda Mixon (Rick) Burgess, Kevin C. Mary passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016.

Born in Salley, she was a daughter of the late Earl Emmett Hallman and Nita Adams Hallman and was married to the late Preston Leroy Ussery. She taught school in Columbia, Jackson, Williston and at JDA in Blackville for 30 years. She was a member of the Ackerman Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #198 where she previously served as past Worthy Matron. Mary loved to read and was an avid bird watcher.

Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Hair and Amy Ussery, both of Williston; grandchildren, Kelli (Bobby) Briggs, Kimberly (Tanner) Pope; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Peyton and Jackson Briggs and Emma and Tucker Pope; sister, Betty (Toby) Miller; brother, “Buddy” Earl (Janice) Hallman and a number of nieces and nephews.

Frank Haddon III - Barnwell

Frank “Bucky” Madison Haddon III, 66, of Barnwell, went to be with his Lord on December 25, 2016.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Scott Brown officiating at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel, Barnwell. Burial will be in the Barnwell Memorial Cemetery.

Frank was the son of the late Frank Madison Haddon II and Doris Wylona Mauldin. He had a love for welding, automobile mechanics and fishing. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by many.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Haddon Murphy of Columbia, Jessica S. Phillips of Thompson, Ga.; five sisters, Awista Lingould of Barnwell, Suzanne Still of Barnwell, Pam Bragg of Cleto, Ga., Felicia Worthey of Barnwell, Alice (Richard) Kemp of Bamberg; one brother, John Haddon of Barnwell; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a very special someone, Norris Hiott of Barnwell.He is predeceased by one sister, Gail Haddon.

Dorris G. Polk - Barnwell

Dorris G. Polk, 83, of Barnwell, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 22, 2016.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel, Barnwell, officiated by Reverend Rodney Creech.

Dorris was born November 15, 1933 in Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Walter Banks and Lela Hayes.

She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Church of Elko. She loved animals, gardening and fishing. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She will be missed by many and a special niece, Shawnette B. Cash of Barnwell.

Ms. Polk is survived by three sons, Clarence Callison of Ridgeland, Billy Joe Callison of Ocala, Florida and James Callison of Dyer, TN; two brothers, Phillip Banks of Ontario, CA and Tommy Banks of Buna, Texas; one sister, Elizabeth Chavis of Barnwell.

Mary Kay Hightower Still - Barnwell

Mary Kay Hightower Still, 76, of Barnwell, entered into eternal rest at Providence Hospital on December 26, 2016. Kay was born in Ashepoo on July 1, 1940 to the late Harold and Kathleen Delk Hightower.

She is survived and dearly loved by her husband of 58 years, Merrell C. “Little Goat” Still of the home; sons, Chip Still (Jackie) and Stevie Still (Tammy); granddaughter, Lauren Still Croft (Martin); grandson, Trey Still (JoAnna), and great-grandsons, Jase Croft and Grayer Croft; her brother, Robert Hightower of Highpoint, N.C. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Delk Hightower and a sister, Anne Hightower Williamson.

Kay lived life to its fullest and was the matriarch of the Still family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was an avid card player, fisherman, cook and traveler. She invested her time in her family and friends and to helping others. Kay never met a stranger and had a talent for entertaining and making others feel welcome. A 1958 graduate of Denmark-Olar High School, she was voted wittiest, friendliest and most dependable and most athletic. She was an active member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church and a former GA’s leader and director of youth Sunday school. She was greatly involved in the community including the Sandlapper League, Southern Carolina Alliance, American Cancer Society, the Red Hat Society, and the Winton Assembly. She was retired from Regions Bank as Senior Vice President and was in Who’s Who of American Business Women. In 2015 she was named Economic Development Ambassador of Barnwell County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church in Barnwell. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 28 in Hagood Avenue Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Roger Dale Kinard - Fairfax

Roger Dale Kinard, 72, of Fairfax, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Kinard was a native of Colleton County and the son of the late Willis E. Kinard and the late Aurelia Ryan Harvey. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, was a retired construction worker and a member of Fairfax Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Fairfax First Baptist Church with Pastor James Porter officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in the Fairfax Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Angela K. Holland (Bobby), Jill K. Topper (Chris), Rhonda K. Evans (Archie) and Crystal G. Kinard (Ronaldo); six grandchildren; one niece; special friend, Angie Duggan; and the children’s mother, Betty Jean Kinard. He was predeceased by one brother, Lewis E. Kinard.

Fannie Brown Stone - Fairfax

Fannie Louise Brown Stone, of Fairfax, the wife of Cambridge Trott Stone Sr., died Thursday, December 22, 2016.

Mrs. Stone was born March 12, 1932 in Sycamore a daughter of the late Eddie E. and Isleen Lyons Brown. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Fannie was a member of Fairfax First Baptist Church where she served as organist, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her husband Cambridge and her family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Fairfax First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Fairfax Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

God saw her getting tired, a cure not meant to be, so he put his arms around her, and whispered “Come with Me”.

Survivors include besides her husband Cambridge are three sons, Cambridge Trott “Trottie” Stone Jr., Larry Quinton Stone, and Rodney Keith Stone (Donna); one daughter, Thea Angela Stone Coleman; grandchildren, Cambridge Trott “Trey” Stone (Chelsea), Elizabeth Stone Tutterow (Josh), Ashley Lauren Stone, Ransom Alexander “Alex” Coleman Jr. (Anna), Angela Coleman Strong (John), Amelia Ann Coleman; one sister, Emily B. Rodgers (Thurman); great-grandchildren, Emma Mane Strong, Leila Kate Strong, William Thomas Jones. She was predeceased by her brother, Billy Brown and grandson, William “Billy” Thomas Stone.

Carol C. Caldwell - Rock Hill

Carol Clark Caldwell of Rock Hill died December 24, 2016 at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

She was born on November 18, 1940 in Philippi, West Virginia and later moved with her aunt and uncle, Beatrice and Morgan Boyles, to Williston. Graduating from Williston-Elko High School in 1958, Carol received an academic scholarship to attend Coker College. Her scholarship was acquired through assistance from Lenna Riley, a music teacher at Williston-Elko High and a Coker graduate.

Carol was a talented singer, a soprano, and was a member of “The Blendettes”, a trio performing throughout the Williston area at various functions, even appearing on television out of Augusta, Ga. on a few occasions. She also sang in her church choir at Williston First Baptist Church and later in Rock Hill as a member of the First ARP Church.

Carol married James B. Caldwell Jr. in 1960 and delayed her education temporarily to begin raising her family. She attended courses at the University and later at Winthrop University while rearing two children. Carol finished her BS degree at Winthrop in 1967 and then completed her Master of Arts in Teaching at Winthrop in 1972. She was a Language Arts teacher and spent the bulk of her career at Rawlinson Road Middle School. Carol retired in 1998 with 30 years’ service. One of her greatest joys was learning of the academic and career successes in her former students.

Carol was active in the Junior Women’s Welfare League in Rock Hill for several years. Involved in numerous projects while in the League, she once appeared in their Follies production singing “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”.

Carol was a great lover of animals, especially dogs, and owned several over the years. She was an avid reader and solver of the newspaper crossword puzzles, whether with the help of the dictionary or not. Having attended USC for a few semesters, she was partial to the Gamecocks and was a good sport in that she endured a household full of screaming Carolina fans during football season.

Carol was predeceased by her eldest son, James B. Caldwell III. She is survived by her other son, J. Clark Caldwell of Rock Hill and by a sister, Patricia Delapass of Fairmont, West Virginia. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Williston Presbyterian Church with Dr. Beth Yarborough officiating. The family will receive friends in the church social hall immediately following the service on Monday. The family has requested that memorials be given in Carol’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Hussy Barker - Barnwell

Homegoing services in loving memory of Mr. Hussy Barker were held Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Grove Baptist Church in Barnwell with Rev. John Young officiating.

Mr. Barker departed this life on December 21, 2016 at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken.

He was born on July 27, 1925 in Dunbar, the son of the late Tillman and Nobie Barker. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers. Mr. Barker was a member of St. Thomas Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher. He retired from Shuron.

He leaves to cherish his memory devoted friends, Harry and Emma Dickson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Robert James Ford

Homegoing services for the late Robert James Ford were held Monday afternoon, December 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church in Snelling officiated by Rev. John Young.

Mr. Ford, son of the late Mr. Eugene Ford and Mrs. Julia Ford, was born on April 24, 1945 in Barnwell County. He departed this life on December 18, 2016 at the Allendale-Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax.

His educational training was received in the public schools of Barnwell County. He was employed for many years at Dixie Narco in Williston.

He was a member of Fair Branch Baptist Church for many years until he moved his letter to St. Paul Baptist Church. Mr. Robert James Ford was a great person who loved people and helping people.

He leaves two children, Michael (Yvonne) Barker of Beaufort and Michelle (Daryl) Hayes of Fort Meade, Maryland; a grandson, Daryl Jr.; two loving sisters, Mrs. Florie James and Mrs. Dorothy (Kenneth) Thomas; one brother, Mr. Louis Ford; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. One brother, Allen Ford, preceded him in death.

Roselyn A. Moore - Denmark

Funeral services for Roselyn A. Moore, 90, of Denmark, will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the Denmark First Baptist Church, Denmark, with the Reverend Matt Thomas officiating. The casket will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Folk Funeral Home, Denmark. Pallbearers will be Charlie Breland III, Barrett Breland, Ben Hay, Phil Moore, Jason Bridges and Spencer Stillinger. Memorials may be made to Grove Park Hospice, 1324 Grove Park NE, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Roselyn passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at her home.

Born in Livermore, California on December 9, 1926; she was one of 9 children born to the late John and Mary Duarte Moura and was retired from E.T. Barwick Company in Barnwell. Mrs. Moore loved growing her roses and working in her yard and was an avid Clemson fan. 

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy and her husband Charles Breland Jr. of Denmark; a son, Phillip and his wife Linda Moore of Barnwell; her grandchildren, Victoria (Ben) Hay, Charlie (Crystal) Breland III, Barrett (Melanie) Breland, Phil (Monica) Moore, Kristen (Jason) Bridges and Lindsey (Spencer) Stillinger; 10 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Wadie Capito of Swainsboro, Ga.
