Jimmy 'Tiny' Smart - Houston, Texas

Funeral services for Jimmy “Tiny” Smart, 59, of Houston, Texas, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Happy Home Baptist Church with Reverend George Smart Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Zion Branch Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Jimmy “Tiny” Smart was born in Sycamore on March 10, 1957, the fourth child of the late George Smart Sr. and Mary Allen Smart.

Jimmy attended the Allendale County Public Schools and was a graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School Class of 1975. Jimmy played baseball and was an outstanding basketball player. Jimmy set the record of 135 assists for passing the ball in basketball and it is on record at the Allendale-Fairfax High School in the sports hall of fame and, to knowledge, his records have not been broken. Jimmy also played in the basketball “All Star State Game”. He also played with the Military baseball league.

Everyone who knew him, remember Jimmy as a good friend who kept in touch with his friends in Allendale. He loved Allendale; he had a subscription to the Allendale Sun to keep in touch with Allendale. Jimmy talked everyday with his mother and his friend Orney Lee “OB” Sabb. He attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. and Denmark Technical College in Denmark. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1982 and retired in 2004 after 22 years of service. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering while in the Army. He was employed with the City of Houston from 2004-2016.

Jimmy married Tammy Y. McCoy of Newark, NJ on August 2, 1985 and to this union they were blessed with four children.

Jimmy’s earthly chapter came to a close on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Cherishing his memory is his loving wife, Tammy Y. Smart; children: Kivan R. Smart of Abilene, TX, Krystal R. Smart and Kalya I. Smart of Houston, TX, and Keenan I. Smart of San Antonio, TX; mother, Mary Graham of Allendale; siblings: Georgia (Oliver) Cohen, Alphonso Smart and Carrol (Bertha) Graham, all of Allendale; George (Georgia) Smart of Fairfax, Odean (Ray) Mosely of Portal, Ga., James (Theresa) Smart and Benita (Corico) Cobin, both of Summerville, and Johnny (Sylvia) Graham of Sylvania, Ga.; two grandchildren: Keynila A. Smart of Bedford, MA and Maliah R. Riley of Houston, TX; sister-in-laws: Denise McCoy of Montclair, NJ and Jacqueline Renee McCoy of Palmyra, NJ; one aunt, Ruby M. Platts of Jacksonville, Fla.; one uncle, Frank Allen of Allendale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Allendale Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
