Willie James Austin - Barnwell

Home going celebration for Mr. Willie James Austin was held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at noon at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnwell. Interment followed at Bethlehem Cemetery.

On Friday, February 17, 2017, Willie James Austin entered into eternal rest.

Mr. Willie James Austin of Barnwell was born on April 4, 1954 to the late Elizabeth Austin and the late James O. Frederick. He was preceded in death by his son. At an early age, Willie James accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church.

His education training was received in the public schools of Barnwell County.

Survivors include: 10 children, Sinclair (Danielle) Singleton, Cedric M. Creech, Marlon R. Creech, Denise C. Miller, Alyssia P. Austin, and Tremayne Austin, all of Barnwell, Tara Y. Allen of Aiken, Ebony D. Creech of Cayce, Dwayne Austin and Steven (Laura) Hancock of St. Augustine, Fla.; two sisters, Kaye F. Austin of Barnwell and Connie (Dennis) Gerald of Columbia; three brothers, Roger Austin of Barnwell, Clyde (Vandora) Austin of Charlotte, N.C., and Maurice R. Austin of Columbia; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Easter Jenkins Miller - Barnwell

A Celebration of Life and Triumph in loving memory of Ms. Easter J. Miller was held Sunday, February 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church in Snelling with Rev. John Young presiding. Interment followed at St. Paul Cemetery.

She passed away on February 12, 2017.

Ms. Easter J. Miller of Barnwell County was born on March 12, 1927 to the late Manley and Easter Jenkins.

At an early age Easter received the lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined Sweet Water Baptist Church. Easter later moved her membership to St. Paul Baptist Church.

Her educational training was received in the public schools of Barnwell County. Her occupation included domestic duties.

Easter was united in holy matrimony to the late Eddie Miller and from this union nine kids were born.

Survivors include: her children, Dorthy (Eddie) Thompson of Bronx, N.Y., Earnestine (late Wesley Odom) of Barnwell, Mary (Paul) Michel of Greenville, Deloris (Johnny) Atkins of Barnwell, Daniel Anderson of Titusville, Fla., Wordlain Miller of Barnwell, Elmo Anderson of Barnwell, and Freddie (Brenda) Miller of Barnwell; two sisters, Annie Green of Summerville and Lula Mae Evans of Titusville, Fla.; one brother, Terry Jenkins of Barnwell; 21 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Bobby Sanders Jr. - Allendale

A memorial service for Robert Louis “Bobby” Sanders Jr., 61, of Allendale, will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Bobby passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Elizabeth Crane Sanders Cardoza and the late Robert Louis Sanders Sr. He was a graduate of Blackville High School, was a member of the Blackville First Baptist Church and worked as a truck driver for CanAm. He previously worked for Blackville and Orangeburg police departments where he received numerous commendations, Wackenhut at SRS, Sherriff’s Department in San Francisco, Calif. and was a deputy with the Pacheco County, Calif. Sherriff’s Department. He was a U.S. Army Veteran where he was stationed at Schofield Barracks, HI and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Savannah, Ga.

Survivors include his mother of Princeton, WV; daughters, Michelle Jennifer S. (Travis) Lancaster of Greer, Keely Lynn (Carr) Horrell of Wilmington, NC; sons, Robert Louis (Elizabeth) Sanders III of Cowpens, William Judson Sanders (fiancé Brittany Ann Levan) of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Jasmynn Mercedes Lancaster, Jason Taylor-Hart Lancaster, Jaxon Bentley-Cruz Lancaster, Skyler Horrell, Baylee Horrell, Liam Johnson, Amzy Johnson, Kenslee Horrell, Malachi Horrell; sister, Cheryll (Richard) Nelson of Princeton, WV; niece, Stina Marie Babb; nephew, Miles Austin Nelson. He was first married to Elaine H. Sanders and then was married to Kelly T. Sanders. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthya Ann Sanders, and a nephew, Richard Dayn Nelson.

Anna Mae Woods Morgan - Gilbert, Arizona

Anna Mae Woods Morgan, 91, resident of The Oaks senior living community in Gilbert, Arizona, formerly of Barnwell, South Carolina, passed away on March 3, 2017 at the Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert.

Born on May 30, 1925 in Morgan County, Tennessee, Mrs. Morgan was a graduate of Coalfield High School and worked during World War II at the secret government facility in Oak Ridge, TN, where the atomic bomb was developed. Following the war, she became the devoted wife of her late husband of 60 years, Carl M. Morgan.

She was the beloved mother of Phyllis Suckow (Paul) of Ardmore, PA, and Regina Skouson (Sterling) of Gilbert, AZ, and grandmother of Morgan Suckow (Mark Lemerise) of New York, NY.

Mrs. Morgan was a substitute teacher for many years in special needs classes in Barnwell, where she was highly regarded for her patience and kindness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnwell, and she and her late husband were active in local square dance organizations.

A visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, March 11, at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. Burial will be next to her late husband in Anderson Memorial Park.

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Boone - Spartanburg

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hobby Boone, 88, died Monday, March 6, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House after a long illness.

She was born in Concord, N.C. and was a resident of Spartanburg for 51 years.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles Chaffin Boone; her daughter, Mary Boone Pinkowish; her sons-in-law, Thomas John Pinkowish and Paul Elwin Rollins Jr.; and her grandsons, Alexander Boone Pinkowish and Charles Elwin Rollins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Wende Boone Rollins; and her granddaughter, Rachel Marie Evans. Her parents were James Hilary Hobby and Mae Mast Hobby.

Betty graduated from Concord High School and attended St. Mary’s and Appalachian State University. She loved art and taught it for many years at Twaddell School in Durham, N.C. She was a dedicated wife and mother and will be remembered by many people for her kindness, her grace, her humor and her ability to immediately connect with people of all ages from all walks of life.

Betty was active for many years in the community in book clubs, the garden club, the Magnolia Debutantes, Central United Methodist Church and many other groups. She loved music, traveling and won awards for her floral arrangements. She was very proud of her heritage as a member of the Mast family. As a young girl, she spent every summer at her “Aunt Josie’s” which is now the Mast Farm Inn in Valle Crucis, N.C.

A service honoring her memory will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Norrell, the Rev. Luther Rickenbaker, and the Rev. Todd Walker. Visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

William Duke Fields - Florence

William Duke Fields, 75, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Mr. Fields was born in Barnwell, a son of the late Clarence Fields and Tencher Duke. He was a graduate of the Barnwell School System. He was a train conductor with AmTrak Railroad and loved his job. Mr. Fields was an avid golfer and loved to shag.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Fields.

Surviving are his sons, William (Donna) Scott Fields and William Rick Fields; his daughter, Tiffany (Michael) Paige Tolley; grandchildren, Ransom Scott, Grace Ellen Tolley, Clara Michael Tolley, Nathan Scott Fields and Lauren Elizabeth Fields; and his sister, Frankie Sutton.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Marion Felder - Barnwell

Homegoing services for Mr. Marion Felder were held Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church in Barnwell with Rev. Harris Barker presiding. Interment followed at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Marion Felder was the beloved son of the late Mrs. Julia Tilley and the late Mr. Archie Kennedy. He was raised by the late Mrs. Sara Britt.

He was born on April 12, 1951 in Barnwell.

He departed this life on Friday, February 24, 2017 at MCG in Augusta, Ga.

At an early age he was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnwell. He went to Barnwell Public Schools and was a member of the Class of 1971.

He was married to the late Mrs. Helen Felder.

He was proud of his over 25 years of service with Wal-Mart.

Survivors include: one son, Marion “Cricket” Felder Jr. of Washington; three grandchildren; two sisters, Narvia Lee Moore of Barnwell and Bernice Peeples of Barnwell; one brother, Harry Felder of Barnwell; a host of nieces and nephews, including a devoted niece, Sherrie (Arthur) Felder of Barnwell; a devoted grandson, Brice Myrick of Barnwell; two caring friends, Mrs. Inez Myrick and Sonya Myrick; and a host of co-workers from Wal-Mart of Barnwell.

H. Pat Chappell - Kline

H. Pat Chappell passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Born in Candor, N.C. on May 21, 1928, he was a son of the late Lacy Calvin and Esther McCaskill Chappell. He attended Duke University, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, after serving in the Marines he began farming with his father and two brothers in N.C. He then moved to Kline in 1952 and set out a peach orchard, which has grown to be one of the largest peach operations in SC. He was awarded the Mr. Peach Award and also Conservation Farmer of the Year. He was also in the pork business for fourteen years, serving as chairman of S.C. Pork Board for three years, also past member and vice chairman of the Edisto PCA, member of the Ellenton Agriculture Club, the Vocational School Board, Farmers Mutual Exchange and Selective Service board.

He was a pilot, flying a plane and a helicopter, His love of flying never ceased. He was a member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Barnwell United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery on Hagood Avenue by the Holy Apostles Church. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 1:55 p.m. in the Barnwell United Methodist Church sanctuary. Memorials may be made to the Barnwell United Methodist Church building fund or Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phyllis Coggin Chappell; daughter, Phyllis Lynn Chappell; two sons, Lacy Patterson Chappell (Sonia) Chappell and Thomas Lee Chappell; brother, Mack Chappell; four grandchildren, Patrick and Joseph Chappell, Esther and Rush Chappell; and one great-grandchild, Yazmine Chappell. He was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Chappell.

Irma Ojasson Lyly - Allendale

Irma Ojasson Lyly, 91, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her home in Allendale.

Irma was born June 27, 1925 in Marjamaa, Estonia to Albert and Irma Grunberg Ojasson. She was married to the late Lawrence Lyly for 55 years. She was a retired engineering technician.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lyly Matthis of Allendale; sister, Ursula (Andres) Paap of Vero Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Lawrence Matthis of Allendale, Rev. Christopher (Lisa) Matthis of Castle Rock, Co., and Kirsten (Michael) Matthis Bonfanti of Monticello, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Michael Matthis of Castle Rock, Co., and Mason and Julia Bonfanti of Monticello, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at noon in the fellowship hall.

Aubreyanna Crawford - Raleigh, N.C.

Ms. Aubreyanna Denae Crawford, aka “Yanna” age 23, was born on January 14, 1994, in Orangeburg, to Lossie M. Crawford and Honali Adrian Hayes.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance she attended the Rosemary Baptist Church in Barnwell along with her mother.

Aubreyanna received her education in the public school system of Barnwell. She graduated in 2013 and was furthering her education by attending the Wake Community College in Raleigh, N.C. She worked in customer service at Walgreens in Raleigh, N.C.

“Yanna”, as she was affectionately known, was a loving and kind person and will be remembered for the love she had for her family, and friends, and her beautiful smile.

Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call her from labor to reward on February 21, 2017, at her home in Raleigh, N.C.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, one daughter, Avery Grace Jones of Raleigh, N.C; mother and stepfather, Honali Adrian (Derrick) Robinson of Barnwell; father and stepmother, Lossie M. Ava Nicole Fields was born on January 4, 2017 in Aiken to Ariel Love and De’Angelio Fields. On Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:06 a.m., God in his infinite wisdom dispatched an Angel to the home in Barnwell to escort the spirit of Ava Nicole Fields, age 1 month, 29 days, back home.

Homegoing services in loving memory of Ava were held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at New Testament Baptist Church in Barnwell. Interment followed at Barnwell Memorial Garden.

Perry Lee Moore Harden - Barnwell

Ms. Perry Lee Moore Harden was born on February 16, 1944, in Allendale, to the late Mr. Harry Lee Moore Sr. and Mrs. May Francis Allen Moore.

She departed this life on March 2, 2017, at her home.

At an early age, she joined Treemount Temple Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga. She graduated from Beach High School in Savannah, Ga. She was married to the late Izell Harden for 52 years, and from this union, five children were born.

The family moved to Barnwell where she then joined Ned Branch Baptist Church. She was a faithful member who sung in the choir, served as a Pastor’s Aid, and was a part of the women’s ministry until her health failed. She was also a member of the Greenbranch Benevolent Christian Society. She was employed by Ducane Heating and Cooling in Blackville for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Izell Harden; one son, Joseph Dean Harden; and one brother, Harry Lee Moore.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a fiance, Thomas L. Evans; daughters, Sondra Harden-Washington (Curtis Reed), and Alice Harden Rhoads (John L. Rhoads); sons, Albert and Sonny Harden; a special daughter, Vickie Allen Black (Lionel Black); sisters, Katherine Moore Garrett (Russell), Irene Bryant, Hattie Lee Moore, and Esther Moore; brothers, Herman Lee Moore, Gary Lee Moore, Abraham Moore and Hal Edward Moore; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grands; one stepgrandchild; sister-in-law, Narva Lee Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

James Barker Jr. - Barnwell

Mr. James Barker Jr., aka Manny Boy, age 62, was born on July 2, 1954 in Barnwell to the late James Barker Sr. and the late late Gladys Patterson Barker.

At an early age, he joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Snelling. He later moved his membership to Bethany Baptist Church in Blackville. He served in the Bethany Male Choir and the Bethany Combined Choir. He received his education in the Barnwell School District and Denmark Technical College, majoring in Culinary Arts. He worked various jobs, including Milliken and Huddle House in Barnwell and Hampton. He was a member of the masonic family. He was a semi-professional pool player.

Manny Boy, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family, friends and playing pool.

He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Lena Vaught Barker, for 38 years.

Our heavenly father called him from labor to reward on March 7, 2017 at his home in Barnwell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two uncles, William Barker and Sammie Lee Patterson.

He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, a loving and devoted wife, Lena V. Barker of Longs; two daughters, Kunteza Vaught and Roshelle Barker of Longs; one son, Makenzie Barker of Longs; three grandchildren, Chekeydah Belin, Takeyah Belin and Kennedy Chestnut, all of Longs; two brothers, Rev. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. James Barker Jr. was held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Blackville with Rev. Reginald Mixon as eulogist. Interment followed at St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Barnwell.

James Myers - Blackville

Mr. James Myers, aka “Cheese” & “Buddy”, age 65, was born on April 4, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Henry Hamilton and the late Jessie Cave Hamilton.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance at an early age, he joined the Union United Methodist Church in Kline where he served as an usher for many years. He later moved his membership and united with his wife at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Blackville where he served as Vice President of the Usher Board until the Lord called him home. He received his education at the Guinyard-Butler School in Barnwell and worked at Achroma in Martin for 39 years before retiring. He was one of the first original members of the Big Seven Association in Barnwell and coached the M&M Cypress Pros Baseball team for many years.

“Cheese” / “Bubby”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Lydia B. Myers, for 15 years.

Besides his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Homey Hamilton.

Our Heavenly Father called him from labor to reward on February 25, 2017, at his home in Blackville.

Evander McTeer 'Van' Cooper Sr. - Barnwell

Evander McTeer “Van” Cooper Sr., 82, of Barnwell, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Van was born in Kline on March 12, 1935 and was a son of the late Ray Dolph and Gladys McTeer Cooper. He retired as a Health Physics Supervisor with Savannah River Site. He was a member and former deacon of the Barnwell First Baptist Church and served in the S.C. National Guard. He loved animals and always seemed to have a pet dog around. He loved to fish and play golf and was always greeted by a friend or two while running errands around Barnwell. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 in the Barnwell Co. Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road officiated by Rev. Keith Richardson. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Mole Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Barnwell First Baptist Church, 161 Allen St., Barnwell, SC 29812 or to Barnwell County Animal Advocates, 28 McDonough St., Barnwell, SC 29812.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Graybeal Cooper of Barnwell; children, Cathy Cooper of Columbia, Evander McTeer “Bo” Cooper Jr. (Becky) of Florence, Clark Cooper (Mandy) of Lexington, and Bonnie Cooper Huth (Randy) of Columbia; affectionately known as “PawPaw” to his six grandchildren, John Huth, Carrie Cooper, Abby Huth, Judson Cooper, Elizabeth Cooper and Mary Huth; and a brother, Ray Cooper of Furman.

Laurie Kuglar - Denmark

A Memorial Service for Laura “Laurie” Lianne Kuglar, 53, of Denmark, will be held 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Barnwell with the Reverends Mark Epperson and Andy Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of her daughter, Katie.

Laurie passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017.

Born in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of Brantley Kuglar Sr. and the late Emmie Goldman Hallman. Laurie formerly worked at the Piggly Wiggly and attended Spring Town Baptist Church in Bamberg. She loved Folly Beach and enjoyed being on the water.

Survivors include her father of Augusta, Ga.; long-time companion, Timmy Bunch; a daughter, Katie Dellairo and her husband, Stephen of Barnwell; a son, Scotty Goodale and his wife Stephanie of Greenville; grandchildren, Jayden and Ian Dellairo; Gibson and Ollie Goodale; brothers, Brantley (Debbie) Kuglar Jr. of Williston and John “Andy” (Debbie) Kuglar of Beech Island; three nieces Bre, Makenzi and Ashley Kuglar.

​Ms. Ruth Mae Mayes, aka “Mae”, age 58 of Barnwell, was born on October 22, 1958, to the late Lucious Johnson and the late Annette Lee Johnson.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance she joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Blackville.

Ruth Mae received her education at the Macedonia School in Blackville.

“Mae”, as she was affectionately known, was a loving and kind person and will be remembered for the love she had for her family, and friends.

She was married to Harry Mayes from 23 years.

Besides her parents and grandparents, she is preceded in death by one grandson and two sisters.

Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call her from labor to reward on March 9, 2017, at the Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, six sons, Marvin Lee, Anthony Lee and Enterick Lee, all of Barnwell, Michael (Bridget) Lee, and Brian Lee of Augusta, Ga., and Carlos (Tosha) Williams of Columbia; eight grandchildren;four brothers, Lee E. Lee, and Charles (Juanita) Johnson of Blackville, George Johnson of Denmark, and Lucious Johnson of Barnwell; two sisters, Georgia Mae Johnson, and Bernice (Patrick) Young of Aiken; two aunts, Jessie Mae Davis of Barnwell, and Shirley Ann Hunter of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sympathizing friends.

Jeanette Hamilton - Barnwell

Mrs. Jeanette Hamilton, age 62, of Barnwell, was born on July 17, 1954, to Henry Priester and the late Gladys Hay Dunbar.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance she joined the Union United Methodist Church in Kline.

Jeanette received her education at the Butler School in Barnwell. She worked at Shuron Textron for five years, and Hardee’s in Barnwell for eight years.

Jeanette was a loving and kind person and will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends.

She was married to the love of her life, Tomas Hamilton for 43 years, and in this union they were blessed with three children.

Besides her mother, she is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Dolly (Estella) Priester; maternal grandparents, William (Lillie Mae) Hay; one brother, Dollar Priester; three aunts, Inez Priester, Carrie Lee Banks, and Wilease Creech; and three uncles, Bo Priester, James Hay, and Johnny Lee Hay.

Mike Jenkins Jr. - Barnwell

Mr. Mike Jenkins Jr. was born to the late Ethel S. Jenkins and the late Mike Jenkins Sr. on December 1, 1948 in Barnwell County. On Friday, March 3, 2017, he departed this life at his home following an extended illness.

At an early age, he joined Hutto Chapel Baptist Church in Hilda. He attended Macedonia Schools of Blackville. He also attended Denmark Technical College where he studied to become an electrician.

In July 1968, he was united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth Dyches of Denmark. To this union three sons were born.

He became employed with Milliken (Barnwell Mills) as an electrician in the maintenance department for five years. He then went on to become employed for a span of over 40 years for various other companies: Burlington Industries, Adam Mills, Sara Lee and Hanes Brand. At the same time, Mike was known as the “TV Repairman” around the area for many years. In 2010, he became employed with the Horsehead Corporation as an electrician where he faithfully worked for another five years until his declining health.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons of the home, Ronald, James and Larry Jenkins; a daughter, Yolanda Jenkins of Barnwell; four sisters, Grace Keech, Lelia Odom and Peggy Kirkland, all of Barnwell, and Estelle Jenkins of Hilda; four brothers, Solomon (Winifred) Johnson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Joe Lewis Jenkins of Riviera Beach, Fla., William H. Jenkins of Barnwell, and Samuel (Diane) Jenkins; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing services in loving memory of Mr. Mike Jenkins Jr. were held on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Guinyard-Butler Middle School in Barnwell with Rev. John Holston presiding. Interment followed at Capernaum Baptist Church Cemetery in Denmark.

Teddy Johnson - Barnwell

Mr. Teddy Johnson of Barnwell County passed away on March 5, 2017 at the age of 73. He was born on July 16, 1943 to the late Ethel Saxon and Eugene Johnson.

He attended school in Barnwell. He worked most of his life as a construction worker. He was married to Rutha Mae Jefferson.

Two brothers preceded him in death, Terry Johnson and Mike Jenkins Jr.

He leaves to mourn two sons, Lynell Gene Johnson and Terry Gene Johnson; one grandson, Terry Gene Johnson Jr.; two brothers, Solomon Johnson and Windy Johnson of Florida and Samuel Jenkins and Shirley D. Jenkins of Barnwell; three sisters, Estelle Jenkins, Grace Keech and Lella Mae Odom, all of Barnwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
